Ways to Stop a Dog from Barking at the Moon

 Does your dog bark at the moon? This may sound a little crazy but this is a very common barking problem. When you think about it the moon is a very fascinating to look at and if you were stood out in the garden with your partner on a nice moonlit night you would probably be talking to each other regarding how amazing it looks.

When a dogs barks at the moon he is talking to you this is the only way he can express his self. But the problem is the moon is only out at night and this can cause problems with your neighbors. I had this problem and looked for ways to stop my dog barking.

 So how did I find ways to stop my dog barking at the moon? 

 Well it’s not as difficult as is sounds you have to understand it is a cry for attention. And if you give in to him he will bark all the more. Yelling or shouting will not do it.

 Lots of dog owners let the dog inside the house and hope that will stop him but again that is not really approaching the problem head on he will still think its okay to bark at the moon

The trick is to divert his attention from the moon to something else. A dog trainer friend of mine showed me a way to stop my dog barking not just at the moon but in other situations.

 This may sound a little extreme but he purchased a water pistol not a powerful one just enough to divert his attention away from the moon. He would hide somewhere in the garden and every time he barked at the moon he would squirt the gun. If in the case the dog was inside barking at the moon he would hide behind the settee or chair. When he told me this I really thought he was joking but trust me it really is very effective. A further trick was to fill a tin can full of small stones and use this to grab his attention  It is important not to gain eye contact while you are doing it other wise he will see this as a game. And he may think by barking at the moon could produce attention and want to play a game.

 These little tricks are not just  to stop my dog barking at the moon it can be applied in almost all dog barking situations
