Stop dogs digging

Many people have mixed ideas to stop dogs digging. Some people think that its okay for a dog to dig after all is quite natural function. You must have noticed how they like to hide there bones often by digging a hole and burying it. Other people are not prepared to let there dogs run wild in the garden and have to foot the bill for the wrecked flower bed you spent the whole weekend planting. My opinion is the latter I don’t see why you should forfeit your garden just because your dog is obsessed with digging holes just where she thinks fit.

If your feelings are that you want to stop dogs digging then here are a few things to take into consideration. Not all dogs like to dig holes the breeds of dogs that do like to dig are terriers and Nordic breeds of dogs.

You can not always get this calculation spot on. All dogs have their own personality so by choosing a particular breed of dog doesn’t that mean you eliminate the problem.

If your dog has got into the habit of digging you will need to address this issue by being a little crafty and to discover the reasons why. One of the main reasons your dog is digging is due to lack of exercise. Another reason could be you are not giving your dog enough attention they do get bored and this is when the digging begins. For some reason it seems to instil in a dog a sense of purpose. Your dog may have to spend a lot of time on her own this in turn creates a feeling of insecurity and anxiety. When this situation arises she is digging a hole in order to get to you.

Another way to avoid to stop dogs digging  when you are at work all day is to take him for a good exercise before you go wear him out so she may spend a good percentage of the day sleeping. Leave loads of toys for her to play with while you are at work.

Another option to stop dogs digging is not to let her loose in the garden unattended and don’t give her an opportunity to dig. A friend of mine came up with a great idea he dug up the first couple of inches of turf in his yard and put chicken wire and covered it up. The result was the dog realised he was not going to be able to dig a hole there and assumed the whole yard was the same so problem solved.
