Great Dane
Training
The Great Dane is one of the largest dogs you could have as a
household pet. A fully grown Great Dane can be like a horse walking into your
house.
They are very powerful and playful dogs and to take control in the early stages
is essential. You can be sure a fully grown Great Dane dog can be a very inhibiting site
and you had better look out when she jumps up on you she is capable of knocking you off
your feet with very little effort.
Great Danes often don’t realize their own strength. In general you will be
delighted to know they are not vicious in nature or though they are large and playful
they can be like a gentle giant when Great Dane training has been implemented.
If you have children in your home and you have added to the
family a Great Dane dog caution is essential. This gentle giant can do some serious injury to
a child if you don’t learn how to how to stop a dog from jumping up on them.
Great Danes love to jump up on people they don’t know the
implications of the injury then can cause. So the first step in your Great Dane training is
to train her not to jump up. When she is a puppy it's really not important but a fully grown
Great Dane dog is a different matter.
A good point to start is when she jumps up in the puppy stage
is to grab her front legs and firmly place them on the floor look her straight in the eyes
and firmly tell her that is not acceptable.
The first couple of times it happens she is still
trying to understand that this is not allowed, but after a while she may jump up and then
when you give her the command jump down straight away. When this takes place be sure to
reward her and assure her this is the message you are sending her.
