Dog House Breaking - House Breaking A Puppy

House Breaking Problems

If there is one thing about owning a dog and caring for him is that seems to be the most misunderstood it is dog house breaking.

I have to admit it’s not the most pleasant task but it has to be done. This part of house breaking a puppy is often neglected and often swept under the carpet until it gets out of hand.

When you arrive home from work to find that your house smells worse than the local tip is when many dog owners have to face house breaking problems.

There are two things to consider the first one is what professional dog trainers refer to as submissive excited urination and the other scent marking. With reference to submissive excited urination actually the word itself is a pretty good description when a dog urinates on the floor and often himself.

Beware it can be embarrassing if it happens to one of your guests. Usually this takes place when the dog is excited or stressed out. There is a perfectly good explanation for this. Dogs that have this problem are of a nervous disposition and sensitive or they may been subject to abuse or ill treatment.

Puppies that have this problem get very excited and unable to control when they urinate. The answer is simple find the reason pay a visit to the vets and establish to whether the dog has an infected bladder or suffering from diabetes.

In most cases he is probably okay however its better to make sure before you start house breaking a dog or house breaking a puppy. The amount to water that your dog consumes at certain times of the day is a very good start if you have guests arriving then take away the water bowl away an hour before your guests arrive it stands to reason that what does not go in cannot come out. Try to keep your dog calm the reason being when he gets excited this is the time he will urinate.

If and when your dog urinates over you or your guests the worst thing you can do is to yell at him or scold him this will only make matters worse and send the dog into panic mode and destroy all the hard work you have put in so far to housetraining a puppy

At all costs stay calm and the dog will sense this and relax. Dogs are not vindictive animals and would not do this on purpose in many cases he can't help himself. Speak in a positive manner but not too aggressive. Treat your dog like you would want to be treated yourself if you had this problem. When people start  puppy housebreaking they just underestimate just how insensitive and intelligent dogs are.

As a dog owner myself I have heard many stories of people with housebreaking problems and in many cases they lose control of themselves and in turn the dog loses confidence in them and the result is frustration from both parties. The essential thing to take into consideration in order not to fall into the same trap is to get as much help as you can and get on the right track from the start to whether you are housebreaking older dogs or puppies.

Paper Training A Puppy

Another form of dog house training is puppy paper training. This is for people that don't usually have a garden and perhaps live in a flat. The basics of this form of puppy housebreaking is to get your puppy to go to the toilet on a newspaper this works very well for some people the newspaper will absorb the toilet and it cost effective because you end up trashing the newspaper anyway. Crate Training Dogs - Puppy Crate Training

Crate Training dogs is a further technic to puppy crate training or training older dogs with reference to older dogs if they have fallen into bad hobbits because of old age many people use this method with great success.

Dogs are like children when they are young they are able to learn much faster and have not fallen into bad habits as yet. But if you find yourself in a house training older dog situation then more patience is required and  dog crate training is a good option.

How effective is crate training and does it work?

The answer to that question yes. And the reason a dog never likes to sleep in his own poop. The other advantage of a crate is you can not be watching your dog 24 hours a day. The size of the crate is depending on the breed of dog. A good guide line is the dog has to be able to stand up and stretch out. If the crate is any bigger then it will defeat the object.

A crate is like a house but only smaller you have to get the dog to ask to come out of the crate to go to the toilet and get him into the habit. When you are involved in a house training older dog situation it takes longer for him to get the message. This may seem a little cruel but the dog may find himself sleeping in the poop a few times but believe me it will not continue they hate sleeping in there own poop.

You are going to have to help him by letting him out to go to the toilet every couple of hours. I know this may not be possible on your own but get the family involved and take turns to help the old fellow. It only takes a few weeks if you are consistent and persistent with your training.

Many people train their dogs even as puppies using a crate. Sometimes as the dog grows they have to replace the crate with a larger one.
