The border collie dog originally came from Scotland in the United Kingdom. They have been used for many years to Shepard sheep and cows. If you have never seen a collie in action it is a performance not to be missed.

Collie facts

The speed and sensitivity is incredible. There are two types of collies rough, and smooth, the main difference being in size the rough being the smaller, but that has changed over the years. Both smooth and rough collies have become larger dogs and lighter in colour.

However, not to be confused with the border collie, there is quite a difference. They are often involved in rescue situations.

Even professional trainers have difficulty with certain breeds of dog’s collies in particular. Don’t be discouraged by this there is no better site than a well trained collie.

When you take on obedience training of any dog if you are not experienced there will be a learning curb however, this can be very enjoyable especially border collie training.

They are highly intelligent and mischievous, and as puppies have boundless energy,  this is where the challenge begins so be prepared for the ride of your life and be sure to do your homework at the start.

You will find that collies because of there level of intelligence are  very sensitive.

Fortunately today with the help of the internet there is no shortage of information available to help you train a Collie.

Of course if you feel that you are not able to spend the time training your collie, and money is not an issue, there are many professional trainers who specialise in training a border collie.

The only thing I can say regarding that is, you will miss out on a lot of fun, they are wonderful pets to have and befriend.

If you research the history of collie dogs, you will discover they have been labeled as a working dog, shepherding sheep and cows.

In this day and age you will now see some wonderful collie show dogs, they are accepted as a house hold pet. I read somewhere recently it was Queen Victoria became interested in collie dogs for show way back in 18th century.
